The students had an amazing week. I see their stamina building everyday. They are working really hard. I am very impressed with their behavior and their work.
We met Ms. Brown today. She is our guidance counselor and she comes into the room to teach social skills. The students are going to learn to be Social Detectives. We reviewed whole body listening(eyes looking, ears listening, voices quiet, body still). We have hand movements to go with each one. Mrs. Brown brought puppy-the puppet to introduce to the class.
We also met our reading buddies. The morning class met their 5th grade buddies from Mrs. Elliot's class and the afternoon class met their 3rd grade buddies from Mrs. Grenier's class. This was a great time for the Kindergarten students to showcase the reading they have been doing and listen to a friend read.
We focuses on the letter Mm all week. We practiced writing it and connected the letter sound to the letter name. We have learned 3 high frequency words so far(I, can, the). The children should be able to recognize these words in their reading. Great words to practice at home!
We've continued to focus on identifying and learning about the numbers 1-10 and identifying and learning our shapes. Kindergarten used different lengths paper strips to describe and compare measurable attributes. We used vocabulary such as length, longer, match, equal, same , shorter, and medium. The children were great mathematician observing all they noticed about the strips.
Ask your child about the book Chrysanthemum. We read it at the beginning of the school year and have been working on a cutting project about how many letters in their name.
We will visit the library for the first time this year and participate in a music class in our room with Mr. Saunders-our music teacher.
