Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday break. The children came back happy and rested. We are getting back into the swing of things. It did not take the children long to get back into routine.
In writing, the students are continuing to practice first names and last names with upper case for the first letter and lower case for the rest. They are also practicing writing numbers to 20. We are learning to form upper case letters X and Y.
In reading, our focus is on What tools do different workers use? We have been reading about different professions. The letter of the week is O(soft sound) and the new high frequency word is you. The children have learned and are responsible for being able to read I, can, the we, see, a, like, to, and, go, you. Keep reading daily for 20 minutes with your child. They can start taking turns reading to you. We are focusing on reading CVC(consonant vowel consonant) words. The children are working on a each sound and blending the sounds to make the word. They are learners!
In math, we have graphed how many pattern blocks we had in our pile. We matched dot cards to number cards(matching game). We are counting to 100 by 1's and 10's and counting backward from 20. They are learning to identify numbers to 20.
We made pretend snow in class last Friday since we did not have any real snow at that point. We used baby oil or vegetable oil and Corn starch. They made little snowmen and snowballs. They enjoyed it. They painted snowy winter trees. Check them out on our bulletin boards!
We will try to go outside daily-please send all snow gear (snowpants, winter coat, boots, hat and mittens) daily.
There have been some viruses going around. Thank you for keeping your child home until they are fever free(with no meds) for at least 24 hours. It helps stop the spread of viruses.
On that note, our class is in need of donations of disinfecting wipes to wipe down the tables. We could also use sandwich size ziplock bags and small waters. Thank you for being so supportive of the classroom needs.
