Happy Last Day of November! Our evacuation drill that was scheduled earlier this month was cancelled due to the weather. Today, we had a surprise fire drill. The students did a great job! We were outside quickly. After the fire drill, we went to watch the 6th grade performance which was based on Harry Potter but written by the 6th grade students. The Kindergarten students enjoyed it.
Our special Thanksgiving snack was a hit. All the friendship fruit salad and the Blessing/Thankful mix was gobbled up. The children shared what they were Thankful for and learned throughout the week how Thanksgiving originated. Thank you to everyone who donated items towards the snack.
The Pep rally was a also a great success! It was super loud and fun. The students did very well tolerating the noise level and listening to the directions of new games taught. They are excited to play sharks and minnows out at recess. They ALL looked super in their green clothing. We had 100% participation in showing our spirit by dressing in green-that is amazing!!!!
This past week, we focused on the letter Cc and the essential question -What places do we go to during the week? In math, we practiced counting spaces in a game. We did this by acting as a live game piece on a very long number line. We also learned to represent one number in a variety of ways(numeral writing, ten frame, showing that many fingers, writing the number word, drawing that many items). We worked with position words such as next to, above, below and followed directions using these terms. We played I have Who has with numbers to 20. The children answered questions to create a Gingerbread cookie. These will be hung on our bulletin board until right before our holiday break.
At the end of December-right before our Christmas Break, we will be celebrating December by taking part in our own Polar Express. We will invite the students to come in their pajamas. We will watch the story of Polar express(15 minute video). We will act out the Polar Express by pretending to have a train ride and drinking hot chocolate with candy canes and enjoying cookies. I would love donations of hot chocolate mix, mini marshmallows, candy canes, and chocolate chip cookies. Earlier in the month, we will be making a craft that needs large jars of apple sauce and cinnamon. Our class will need approx 4 cups of applesauce and 4 cups of cinnamon. We would love donations of these as well. Please keep an eye out for a sign up genius. I really appreciate all of your assistance with items for the classroom.
As we head into the colder season, our class has been riddled with colds. Our class always welcomes donations of sanitizing wipes to keep our table clean.
I want to send another special Thank you to Mrs. Reardon, Mrs. Rachael Spray, and Mrs. St.John for volunteering in the classroom. I also want to thank Mrs. Reardon and Mrs. Young for organizing our celebrations. I am Thankful for you!
Thank you to all parents for all you do! Keep reading!
