We had another great week. The students continue to build stamina. Friday-all the students had more energy than last week. I am so proud at how they are doing. They are reading and practicing forming letters and numbers throughout the week and I have seen amazing gains. I hope they all tell you that they know how to read. They are all readers! We are finishing Unit 1 in our Wonders Unit this week and they will bring home several paper books that they can read independently to you. These would be great books to have the children take part in their daily reading time with you. They can read from this collection to you and adults or older siblings can continue to read higher level picture books to them. Please continue practicing their sight words with them=I, the, can, we , and see. We will learn how to take a unit assessment this week. Unit assessments will happen at the end of our even numbered units. They will take a small part of the assessment everyday for the week until the assessment is complete. This breaks it up into manageable pieces. This week we will focus on the letter Ss. Our new essential question is How can senses help you learn?
In math, we have been focusing on writing numbers 1 and 2, graphing, counting to 20, counting backward from 20, identifying numbers and counting groups, exploring pattern blocks, identifying 2D shapes, and finding numbers in our environment. We taste tested 3 different kind of apples and graphed which one we liked the best-Honey Crisp apples were the most popular! We graph our weather daily and we found out that September was a sunny month. We have been in school 19 days and the students are anxious to reach 100-we love the number 100! They have been begging to do a movement song where we count to 100 so we will start doing that next week!
Both class visited the library for the first time. Mrs. Charles read to us in the morning and Mrs. Bradley in the afternoon and then we were able to choose and check out a book to bring back to our class until the next library visit.
This week we will have Music for the first time. Mr. Saunders will come to our classroom to provide a music class.
